Welcome to the Fourth Trimester group information and booking page! The group is run by Rosie Knowles, Lindsay Snow and Kiri Porter, and has been supporting new parents for almost eight years.

Rosie is a GP and runs the Carrying Matters resources, all about how holding and carrying children is essential to family health. Lindsay runs the Understanding Kids coaching service, and Kiri runs the Sheffield Sling Library and Sling Spot services.

Providing new parents with a greater empathy with their baby, and more adaptive coping strategies to manage the difficulties and stresses of parenthood builds their resilience and their ability to create loving relationships. Our 4th Trimester parenting course aims to do this – to lower parenting stress and promote more positive parenting experiences through education and community.

The Fourth Trimester group/course is a 6 week cycle/term for parents and their partners or significant caregivers. It is suitable for those with bumps or babies up to four (ish) months of age. There is a strong focus on evidence-based information and support; we do not tell you how to bring up your baby! All sessions are currently being held via Zoom, which is working extremely well, as it is engaging and interactive (rather than a work-style meeting!) Parents are able to listen peacefully, or get stuck into the discussions as much as they wish.

You will be invited to join WhatsApp group for your cohort, and to use it as a source of support and sharing. The link for the Zoom live session is shared each week in the WhatsApp and in email.

1. Introduction to the main types of sling
2. Keeping your baby safe in the sling
3. Common issues with babywearing and how to increase comfort/enjoyment
4. Using a sling for sleep, safe transferring
5. Using a sling for support with feeding
6. Slings and mental health benefits

The sling library offers a free stretchy wrap/Caboo hire scheme  as well as other carriers and personal appointments. Slings can be purchased from Sling Spot.
