Löft is a Danish fair trade brand founded in 2017 with the vision of designing stylish handwoven wraps and ring slings and aiming to create safe fair wage jobs and better opportunities for marginalized female artisans in Nepal.

They started out by only making limited edition luxurious baby wraps and ring slings (now Löft Limited), but have since then expanded with the lines Löft Basic, consisting of handwoven baby wraps and ring slings in organic cotton, and Löft Items which is a range of handmade items.

The beautiful Löft ring sling that they generously sent to Sheffield Sling Surgery is a Shanti Forest Ring Sling with fringes it is made from 100% GOTS certificated organic handwoven cotton and approximately 195cm (plus rings and fringes), 66cm wide, 260gsm.

Sleepy dust

Jess says “It arrived in a lovely cardboard box and was super squishy from first touch and didn’t need much breaking at all! From the quality and feel of the ring sling you can tell that a lot of thought has gone into the design and feel of the sling. The herringbone weave gives it a nice amount of bounce that I think would make it an ideal choice for a newborn baby, but it was also very supportive when used with my 20 month old daughter, L.”

“We took the Löft ring sling out with us on one of our family walks around one of our local country parks, in which my little L was very happy to have a lovely snuggle to start with in a front carry. The fabric felt supportive and the width of the sling helped to spread the weight nice and evenly across my back, however it did feel like a lot of bunch on my shoulder. When I use it again I will flip the shoulder to help with this. As the walk carried on L was up and down wanting to chase after her brothers and this gave me the opportunity to see how well it worked for the quick ups and downs. It was great, easy to use and adapt around her. This is one of the main reasons that people love the ring slings.”

So snuggly and simple to use!

“This ring sling is also lovely for a back carry, the nice squish of it helped it mould across my front with L on my back and remained supportive when she fell asleep. It felt good for the short period of time we used it this way.”

Back carry with the ring sling

“In comparison to other ring slings I have used it was beautiful and supportive. This was my first time being able to have a really good play with a handwoven ring sling, my current ring sling is a Lenny Lamb 100% cotton one, so it was really lovely to be able to compare the handwoven to a machine woven ring sling. With the stretchy feel that comes from the combination of a handwoven and herringbone weave, I think it would work really well for all ages.”
