I remember my very first Sleepy Nico carrier; I spotted an emerald green corduroy full buckle carrier on Ebay several years ago and thought it might be a good addition to a sling library. When it arrived, I was impressed with how simple it was and how comfortable. Soon after Christmas it had its first official outing, to help my friend Lindsay who lived on the end of my road to carry her newborn baby. She loved it too; and soon the Sheffield Sleepy Nico boom had begun! Angie (who owns Sleepy Nico) is now a personal friend, especially as she went to university here, has a soft spot for the Steel City, and has created two Sleepy Nicos named after my two children!!

Lindsay and I are still good friends; she now carries that newborn baby in a toddler Sleepy Nico and the city is awash with these pretty little slings! A few weeks ago a group of us got together in the local Botanical Gardens to have a mini photoshoot 🙂 It was a speedy one, as many of the little ones wanted to explore!

We had a lot of fun! This carrier is well loved for its simplicity, softness, comfort and cheery patterns, as well as the customisable option, and if you go into Sheffield or to one of its many sling gatherings you are sure to spot at least one Sleepy Nico!

The baby size will carry from 3months upwards (it can be adapted (off spec) for younger babies), many families find they last till 14months plus (older babies will be arms out and still in an M shape if not quite knee-to-knee). The straps can be worn crossed at the back or rucksack style for front carries, and rucksack style for back carries. The toddler size suits 18months upwards.SN groupSn shoot

Here are some of the patterns on show that day!

It was a fun day.. and Lindsay and I were able to explore the gardens later both of us with our rather large children on our backs (briefly)!

Have you tried a Sleepy Nico? If not, many of the sling libraries in the UK have one, if not, ask them to consider adding one! There are a few retailers in the UK (like me!), and of course Sleepy Nico themselves, especially for those super-special custom carriers with a personal meaning.
