Tuesday Sling Library at the Snug @ The Snug | England | United Kingdom

A Tuesday sling library drop in session running fortnightly at the Snug in the City Centre, all welcome, from those new to slings to those with years of experience, bump, baby, toddler, preschooler, parent, grandparent, childminder etc! You’re most welcome to come to the sling meet if you don’t need any help but just want to enjoy the company of fellow slingers.

Our Tuesday library sessions are held in the Snug, our permanent family centre, at 71 Leadmill Road, S1 4SE, from 12-2pm on alternate Tuesdays. There is easy access from the Sheffield Interchange via tram and bus, as well as from the train station, and parking is available on the roads nearby and in the Q Park at Sheffield railway station.

Jess and Becca run this session with the help of several committed peer supporters and admin assistants (see the team for more information who might be helping you on the day!)

Come and meet people, make friends, browse the extensive sling catalogue, try them on, get some advice and help from the team of trained peer supporters, librarians and experienced babywearing consultants! On busy days we use a ticketing system to ensure everyone gets they help they need. Slings can be taken home on hire and we have a large range of slings to buy through the Sling Spot.

Please note, library drop in can be busy. It can be fun, there are chairs and toys and refreshments. You can learn a lot by watching other people be fitted, or seeing other babies being carried, there are demo dolls to help you practise. You are welcome to browse (but if you are new to slings, please allow us to support you for your baby’s best positioning and safety and give you the skills you need to get it right at home later). There may be a wait, but do make yourselves comfortable and make friends with your fellow visitors! If you feel that a group space is not for you, are pressed for time, or wish more in-depth learning, one to one sessions are available.

Making yourself at home

Please sign in at the start and tell our volunteer if there is anything you’d like specific help with and then please go and make yourselves comfy in the play area and make friends (if you are a regular, do welcome a newcomer!)

The toys are for children to play with as much as they like.

How do I get some help?

We work our way through everyone on the sign in list, sometimes we gather people with similar needs together for some group work.

We ask for a £2 contribution per family.

Please note it can be busy here – we will see everyone who comes. If you are in a hurry, please tell the volunteer on the desk.

You are welcome to browse

The slings are spread out across the room in categories, and there are demo dolls to use. Please feel free to browse and feel the slings and get an idea of what is available and what appeals to you.

If you are not an experienced user, we ask that you use the demo dolls until one of us is free to assist you. This is for safety and comfort reasons. Once you feel confident and can use a sling safely you will be welcome to continue trying options if you’d like (and do ask us for any extra pointers if you need to).

If you are confident with slings, then you are welcome to try carriers on with your child, this is of course at your own risk.

Taking a sling home

If you would like to take a sling home on hire, you are very welcome to do so; the forms can be filled in at the welcome desk. Fees are £5 a week or you may choose to take it for longer. We charge £15 for four weeks (that’s one week free). Slings can be returned to the Sling Spot shop (just next door to the Snug, during the hours of 10-2pm Monday-Friday or 10-1pm Saturday.) Sling hire can be extended online by email (please check your spam folder for your email after your visit).

Want to buy? We have the Sling Spot shop next door!
